So, anyhow, we are Jerry and Dana as indicated in the title and we are artists from Virginia, yet we have a wealth of travel experience. We've been to over 30 countries and 26 states! The travelling has influenced greatly and is a big reason why we decided to go back to college.
For a long time we, in particularly myself (Jerry), use to believe that college was a waste of time and resources. As for Dana, she was a believer in education and held an associates but she also felt that college was a rip-off for the cost. Yet, after spending seven months apart due to a deployment to Iraq I realized that my current job was not something I liked. It was a great job with benefits, weekly pay, advancement opportunties, great pay and a Fortune 500 Company. Yet, I just didn't look forward to waking up in the morning. I thought about this while in Iraq and thought about what I wanted to do in life.
While in Iraq, there were all kinds of negative attitudes and news everywhere, I had to find a new escape because talking to people just wasn't cutting it. So I turned to sketching and drawing. About two months in I decided that going back to college to study art would be a great idea. Eventhough I hate college before, I felt that going back had more advantages than not going. The reason is simple: life is too short to be stuck doing something you hate.
Ironically back home my wife was practicing art at the local art center and she also expressed interest in going back to study art! When I broke the news to her she was all too excited! We both decided in our mid-20's (so we're not that old) to make the jump and go for it!
So here we are and we have just completed our first year back at school! In this blog I hope to share our story about how we made the jump and why. We aren't millionaires or blessed with a load of scholarships, we are just plain people looking to make a new path in life together!
Tune in for more later!
